Mustang boys stumble in Frederick to miss SoDak 16

Following a convincing first playoff win over Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots Waubay/Summit boys basketball team advanced to take on Leola/ Frederick Titans March 6 and despite holding a five point lead at halftime fell 56-66. Quarter scores for the game were 23-15, 31-26, 38-40 and 56-66.

Mustang girls fall in SoDak 16 with heartbreaking loss

Tulare Patriots to advance to the SoDak 16, Waubay/Summit Mustangs traveled to Huron March 5 and took the floor against Corsica-Stickney Jaguars. With a win meaning a trip to the state tournament and a loss meaning an end to their season, Mustangs fell in a heartbreaker 32-38.

Webster Area boys win first region playoff game since 2004

With a second seed in the Region 1 tournament on the line Webster Area boys varsity basketball team took on Florence/ Henry Falcons for the Bearcats final game of the regular season Feb. 27 in Webster. Bearcats emerged with a 66-57 victory to secure a home playoff game.

Webster Area Bearcat boys wrestlers attended SDHSAA Boys State Championships Feb. 26-28 in Sioux Falls and placed 41st of 77 teams with 26 points. Haeden Jorgenson was the team’s only placer by claiming second for a fourth straight year.

With a six game win streak heading into their final game of the regular season Groton Area boys varsity basketball team hosted Aberdeen Christian Feb. 27 in Groton and managed a 55-45 win over the highly ranked Knights. Quarter scores for the game were 17-8, 28-21, 41-30 and 55-45.

Groton girls advance to SoDak 16 after double overtime win

Following a trouncing of Britton-Hecla Braves in the opening round of region playoffs, Groton Area girls basketball team hosted Milbank Bulldogs Feb. 26 in Groton and in a thriller, which took double overtime to decide, the Tigers escaped with a 54-52 win.
