First reading for wind tower setback ordinance

The first reading of ordinance #2026-01 was approved at the regular Day County Commissioners meeting March 24. This ordinance proposed wind tower setbacks of four times the height for non-participants, 1.5 times the height for road right of ways, 1.

Webster Area AAU wrestlers qualify for state tournament

Webster Area AAU wrestlers wrestled at the Region 4 tournament March 14 in Britton. Twelve wrestlers qualified for the state meet in Sioux Falls by placing in the top three of the 16 person bracket. Six wrestlers were Region champions.

Bearcats dominate, playoff run ends in SoDak 16

After a 22 year region playoff win drought Webster Area boys claimed their second playoff victory in one week March 6 with a dominant 78-55 win over Britton-Hecla Braves in front of an energetic home crowd in Webster to qualify for the SoDak 16.

WebsterAreawrestlers took to the mat March 7 at the District 7 AAU meet in Sisseton. Twenty-four of 25 wrestlers placed in the top eight in their age and weight categories to move on to the Region meet in Britton. Those who place in the top three advance to the state AAU meet in Sioux Falls.

Tiger girls eliminated with SoDak 16 loss

Groton Area girls varsity basketball team traveled to Madison March 5 for their SoDak 16 matchup against Sioux Falls Christian but had their playoff run brought to an end with a 25-55 loss. Quarter scores for the game were 5-15, 10-24, 1650 and 25-55.

School cellphone ban fails in South Dakota legislative committee

PIERRE – A bill to ban cellphone use by public school students during the day narrowly failed in a South Dakota House of Representatives committee Monday.The Education Committee voted 8-7 to defeat Senate Bill 198. The bill passed the state Senate 19-15 on Feb. 17.
