Groton Area tracksters win relay among other individual top finishes

Track and field season is underway for Groton Area as the Tigers have a total of 20 girls and 15 boys ready to compete across the events. The team traveled to Aberdeen March31 for the Northern State Open and took home top finishes in the boys and girls 4x400 meter relay.

Bearcat tracksters sprint into season with several returning state qualifiers

Spring is in the air and with it comes track and field season for Webster Area students. Currently, head coach Bill Sawinsky said the high school roster has a total of 47 athletes set to compete across a range of events.

Webster Area vaulters fly high in opening indoor meet

Webster Area Bearcat pole vaulters traveled to Aberdeen March 23 to compete in the Fuller Invite at Northern State University. Five athletes competed with the team’s top placer being Jase Voss with fourth.Boys resultsPole vault: Voss 10’0.75” fourth, Gabriel Gaikowski 10’0.75” sixth.

Tiger boys finish seventh at state after final win

Groton Area boys kicked off the Class A Boys State basketball tournament March 20 in Rapid City with a first round matchup against a tough Hamlin Chargers squad and fell 61-65 in a thrilling game which saw eight lead changes and 11 ties. Quarter scores for the game were 9-11, 26-24, 43-41 and 61-65.

Two Webster Area AAU wrestlers take top place at state meet

Webster Area AAU wrestlers wrestled March 20-21 at the State AAU Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls. Coach Curtis Huffman said that to make it to the podium, wrestlers needed to finish top eight. Webster had two state champions Lydia Williams/Goedert and Nowwa Williams/ Goedert.
