Bearcat wrestlers find success in weekend action

Webster Area Bearcat wrestlers competed in weekend tournaments Jan 3-4. The varsity girls wrestling team competed at the MCM Girls Invitational in Salem Jan. 3 while the Bearcats boys wrestling team hosted the Webster Holiday Tournament Jan. 4 at the armory.

Webster boys coach has team now playing how he wants

With the Webster Area Bearcat boys basketball win last week against Tiospa Zina Wambdi, their coach is happy the team is finally playing the way he wants.Webster went 14-12 in the first quarter and widened their lead by the close of the half to 36-25.

Waubay-Summit boys basketball drop consecutive road games

Mustangs boys basketball competed on the road against Elkton-Lake Benton Jan. 2 and faced Hill City Jan. 4. The Mustangs lost both of the games by 14 points. Head coach Mark Amdahl said the contest against Hill City highlighted some Waubay- Summit weaknesses which need to be fixed.

Bearcat girls attack defense

Webster Area Bearcat girls are getting more consistent on the season and that showed with a win Jan. 7 against Tiospa Zina, 51-43.“It took some time, but we started to attack the defense with a dribble drive and that was the turning point in the game,” Bearcat Coach Mike Dunse said.

Groton boys trounce Warner

Groton Area Tigers boys basketball team took on the Warner Monarchs Jan. 7 in Groton. The home team walked away the victors by score of 63-24.In the first, Groton was up 12-5 and they were up 30-10 by the half. In the third quarter, they widened the gap to 47-14 before finishing the game.

Tiger girls scratch Monarchs

Groton Area Tigers girls basketball team sent the Warner Monarchs packing Jan. 7 when they met at the Tiger’s jungle. The local team pulled out a win with 51-34 on the night.From the get-go the Tigers pulled out in front with a 15-9 score in the first quarter.

Mustangs boys basketball dominate in road victory

Waubay-Summit boys basketball team went on the road and faced off against Tri-State at Rosholt High School Dec. 30. The Mustangs prevailed with an 80-41 final score.The Mustangs record improved to 3-2 on the season after securing the win against Tri-State.

Injuries continue as Webster Area boys basketball fall to Groton Area

Webster Area Bearcats boys basketball hosted the Groton Area Tigers Dec. 30 at the Webster Armory. Bearcats lost the game 46-76. Head coach Jared Vergeldt said his team never gave up during the contest, but ran out of gas in the competition.
