Webster Area Bearcats opened the playoffs with a 3-0 Class A Region 1 quarterfinal win over Sisseton Redmen Nov. 4 in Aberdeen. Set scores for the match were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22.“We played Sisseton earlier in the season and watched film on them to prepare for our firstround region game.

Webster Area varsity volleyball took on Florence/ Henry Oct. 24 in Florence and pounced the Falcons 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-18.“Overall, I thought we had a great team win against the Falcons. Our hitting was evenly distributed and we served aggressively.

Waubay/Summit Mustangs varsity volleyball started their last week of regular season play Oct. 24 in Waverly with a 0-3 loss to Waverly/South Shore Coyotes. Set scores for the match were 10-25, 21-25 and 19-25.Casharie Neilan was five for six on serving and converted the team’s only ace.

Groton Area Tigers cross country runners competed in the SDHSAA Class A State meet Oct.25 in Huron for their final meet of the season.Jayden Schwan placed34th in the boys 5k in17:33.08 and Riley Shellenberger placed 100th in19:20.09.For the girls 5k Ryelle Gilbert placed 22nd in19:55.
