Langford takes narrow first win

Langford Area Lions boys varsity basketball squad hosted Warner Jan. 15 in Langford but couldn’t dethrone the Monarchs in a 34-53 loss. Quarter scores for the game were 9-17, 15-29, 27-37 and 34-53.

Tigers senior reaches 1,000th basketball point milestone

Ahead of Groton Area’s Jan. 15 basketball game against Tiospa Zina Wambdi, Tiger’s senior Ryder Johnson was eight points shy of reaching 1,000 for his varsity high school career. With a 15 point effort Johnson surpassed the milestone in an eventual 83-9 win.“He’s a very coachable kid.

SDHSAA board hears school classification appeals

PIERRE – Every two years, the South Dakota High School Activities Association approves school enrollment numbers that determine sports and fine arts classifications. Prior to that approval, the board may hear appeals from member schools. On Jan.

Webster girls take dominant basketball win against Deuel

Webster Area took the court against Deuel Cardinals Jan. 8 in Deuel for a girls varsity basketball game which ended in a 52-29 blowout win for the Bearcats. Quarter scores for the game were 19-13, 32-19, 3825 and 52-29.

Bearcat girls claim podiums

Webster Area varsity girl wrestlers attended the Miller/Highmore/Harrold Girls Tournament Jan. 10 in Miller with two wrestlers taking individual podiums and the team placing sixth out of 15 teams with 40 points among their four wrestlers.

Starting in seventh grade, Webster Area senior Haeden Jorgenson began wrestling in varsity matches and during the Webster Area Invitational tournament Jan. 3 in Webster hit a milestone few wrestlers ever reach with his 200th varsity match win.
