George Eagleman is an 82-year-old from Rosebud and has always had a passion for learning. Eagleman said he tries to learn everything he wasn’t taught and wants to teach the younger generation. Being from a reservation, Eagleman states he thinks language is extremely important for people to learn. An enduring pursuit to continue learning

George Eagleman was born in 1944 and grew up on the Rosebud reservation. He is currently living at Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center and has been there for about four years. Eagleman is a positive thinker and a joker. He said he has learned a lot in life and likes to shares his knowledge with others.

BY THE NUMBERS

Food pantryDuring the month of January, Day County Food Pantry provided food to 129 households totaling 4,092 pounds of goods. Food pantry coordinator Margaret Kwasniewski reported the pantry is in need of vegetables, fruit, cereal and empty egg cartons.

Board members discuss new open meeting laws

RoundupRoslyn held their regular town meeting Feb 2. During the meeting board members discussed renewing South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance intergovernmental agreement. This agreement provides liability, property and crime coverage to the town.

All American Saddle Club held a year-end awards banquet based off of the three horse shows held during the summer at Day County Fairgrounds horse arena. Grand and reserve awards were given in each class based on accumulated points.

Barn destroyed in Bristol fire

Bristol Fire Department responded to a call at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15 for a barn fire at 14308 423rd Ave. south of Bristol and were on scene for two hours along with Webster Fire Department who responded for mutual aid.

Head on collision on Rush Lake

A two car head on collision on U.S. Hwy. 12, Mile 351, Rush Lake, was reported Jan. 16 at 7:04 a.m. According to Day County Sheriff Jerred Schreur, Waubay Fire Department, Day County Sheriff’s Department, Day County Ambulance Service, South Dakota Highway Patrol and Game, Fish & Parks were on scene.

Catholic DaughtersCatholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Pius X met with a potluck after mass. Four officers, 19 members, and guests from the parish were in attendance. Matthew Mork presented the program on the Canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis.
