Family inspires passion and passion helps family

Music and family keep 92-year-old Yvonne Gibbs busy while she resides at Sun Dial Manor. Gibbs was born in Claremont and grew up with one younger sister on her family’s farm. According to Gibbs, she started listening to music at a very young age and fell in love with it.
From a young age, 95-year-old Robert Porter has loved sports. Whether it was playing outside, playing for his school or just watching whatever game was on televsion, Porter would be enjoying every moment. Childhood activites can last a lifetime

Born in Onida, Sun Dial Manor resident Robert Porter has been a South Dakota citizen his entire life. Porter said he grew up with two sisters and as a child he and his family were very active. He explained, his family had a trucking business and he would help after school.

Food pantryDuring the month of March, Day County Food Pantry provided food to 127 households totaling 3,567 pounds of goods. Food pantry coordinator Margaret Kwasniewski reported the pantry is in need of paper towels, tissues and bars of soap.

Catholic DaughtersCatholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Pius X 1827 met March 9 at the Parish Center with four officers and 15 members present. Officers led the Rosary; Rita Mork presided with the flag pledge. Karen Jaskulka led an Irish blessing prayer.

The phrase a “colorful personality” is fitting for Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center resident Leona Williams. Williams has been living at Strand-Kjorsvig for a year and she said she loves joking with the staff and the residents. She added, she likes to spend her free time coloring and painting.

Passing time by spending it on things or people you love

Sun Dial Manor resident, Franklyn Roitsch is an 82-year-old disabled veteran who was born and raised near Bristol. Roitsch graduated from Bristol High School and during his time there he met his future wife, Caroline.
Roger Millim said he has always loved cars and building them. At one point he owned well over 100 cars in his lifetime and really liked his 195557 Chevys. “So if one of them would blow up or whatever, we’d just go home and get another one,” joked 81-year-old Millim. Roger Millim was born and raised near Webster and is the oldest in his family and has four brothers and one sister. One of his favorite things to do with his siblings while growing up was fixing cars and it left quite an impact for Millim.
