Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,I am a lifelong resident of South Dakota. We have kept our 105-year-old David and LaVina Wattier family farm in the family so that current and future generations can return to Day County and have a place called home in South Dakota.
The Day County Food Pantry received a donation of funds from the first annual Chuck Aleck Memorial event. The memorial event was conducted by Bondell Raeder-Aleck Sept. 15 and saw contributions from attendees which totaled for over $1,300 in cash and giftcards. Here, on the left Margaret Kwasniewski is given the funds received from Raeder-Aleck and to the right is Carol Richardt.

Day County Ambulance Service down in revenue; staffing issues persist

As the Day County Commissioners meeting commenced Sept. 20, Day County Ambulance Service Director Chad Madsen spoke about the status of the ambulance service. Madsen provided numbers of calls taken and revenue for the 2024 year and the staffing issues that he has faced during this year.

ORGANIZATIONS

Day County 4-H Leaders Association met Sept. 11 at Day County Courthouse. Secretary and treasurer’s reports were both approved. Shooting Sports reported the Andover threshing bee meal served was well attended and State Shoot was held. Junior Leaders reported the next meeting will be in October.
During Fort Sisseton Harvest Festival Sept. 21 which took place at historical Fort Sisseton, Civil War era reenactors were present all throughout the grounds. Picutred on the left is Bill Hoskins with Daniel Hoskins who are acting as Union officers outside of the Officer’s Quarters building which was constructed in 1867.
