SDDOT deadline for hay removal from highway ditches

PIERRE – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) reminds farmers and ranchers to remove any hay that has been processed in the ditches along state highways. State regulations require that hay be removed from the rights-of-way within 30 days of being processed, but no later than Oct.

Larson becomes new county highway superintendent after Braaten retires

Travis Larson has taken over as the new highway superintendent after Ben Braaten decided to semi-retire after nearly nine years in the role.Larson, a graduate of the 2012 class from Webster Area High School assumed the position Sept. 30.

Waubay Senior Center celebrates 50th anniversary

Waubay Community Senior Citizen Center celebrated its 50th anniversary with celebrations Oct. 4 and a free meal Oct. 5. Former president of the Waubay Senior Center Roger Johanning said the ability to celebrate 50 years in this community is a great accomplishment.
During this year’s Germanfest celebration Sept. 28 which took place at the Webster Armory, axe throwing was a free event via Hub City Axe Throwing of Aberdeen. Patrons could participate with the option of a free will donation. Having traveled to attend this year’s festivities Winfreid Zwizik, a resident of Aalen, Germany, throws an axe at the wooden bullseye. Reporter & Farmer | Brenner Cariveau
