South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem is President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to run the federal Department of Homeland Security.Trump and Noem confirmed the report Nov. 12.Trump issued a statement saying Noem would “guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries.

The third annual Day County Veterans Banquet was held at the Webster Armory Nov. 9. Local Vietnam veterans were honored with Quilts of Valor and other military traditions through the night.
South Dakota State University held a childcare roundtable at Roots Kitchen & Taphouse Nov. 12 to discuss the issues surrounding childcare infrastructure in rural communities. Mayor of Waubay passes while in office

Waubay Mayor Kevin Jens has died.The long-time community leader unexpectedly passed in his sleep Nov. 12 while at home. Jens was reelected to the position of mayor in Waubay this spring for a two-year term. He ran unopposed.Jens was first elected to the chair of mayor April 11, 2000.
