Judge Gregg C. Magera reappointed as presiding judge of Fifth Judicial Circuit

PIERRE – Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen announced Jan. 7 the reappointment of the Honorable Gregg C. Magera, Aberdeen, as Presiding Judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit. Judge Magera’s reappointment follows the reselection of Jensen as Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court.

Minimal information available for vehicle crash

A vehicle crashed into the cable barrier along SD Hwy. 25 Jan. 6 south of Webster. South Dakota Highway Patrol would not release any information pertaining to the crash as it was a non-injury event, according to Public Information Officer Brad Reiner.

Former commissioners give closing remarks, receive thanks

During the Day County Commissioners meeting Jan. 7, newly elected commissioners Blake Torrence and Roy Aldrich were sworn in under oath. With the new commissioners being sworn in, former commissioners Jim Walter gave a closing remark and Janet Marx received thanks for her service.

Big rig temporarily becomes hot wheels

A semi truck started on fire Jan. 9 and pulled into a Webster parking lot. Here a pair of Webster firemen inspect the rig after arriving on scene. The semi driver had extinguished the flames with a personal extinguisher, seen on the right, by the time first responders arrived.

Staffing issues arise in fire department report during Webster City Council meeting

Webster City Council conducted their first meeting of 2025 Jan. 6. During the meeting, fire chief Robert Kwasniewski presented the annual report for the fire department and stated one of the prominent points of discussion was the need for volunteers.
