There’s a new mayor in Waubay and he’s former local law enforcement personnel Barry Hillestad. Set to officially take office May 5, Hillestad won the election by default being the only person to take out a petition this spring. Hillestad will fill the void of the civil servant role in Waubay after that community’s former long-time mayor Kevin Jens passed away while in office. Reporter & Farmer | Amanda Dulitz

There’s a new mayor in town and while he recognizes that civic duty is often a thankless job, he is motivated to continue the legacy of his predecessor.

Members of the Old Time Fiddlers, Dan Sheldon and Judith Oliver from Cresbard and Connie Gisi, of Webster performed April 12 at the Day County Arts Council during that organization’s 25th anniversary celebration which was held in the form of a High Tea. Over 50 individuals attended the event where a presentation on high tea etiquette was given, a brief history of the Arts Council was shared and a three course meal was enjoyed.
