New mayor of Waubay wants to continue legacy of former administration
There’s a new mayor in Waubay and he’s former local law enforcement personnel Barry Hillestad. Set to officially take office May 5, Hillestad won the election by default being the only person to take out a petition this spring. Hillestad will fill the void of the civil servant role in Waubay after that community’s former long-time mayor Kevin Jens passed away while in office. Reporter & Farmer | Amanda Dulitz
There’s a new mayor in town and while he recognizes that civic duty is often a thankless job, he is motivated to continue the legacy of his predecessor.
Next week, Barry Hillestad is set to take over as mayor in Waubay after a no contest election in which he was the only candidate seeking the position. Hillestad will officially assume the office May 5.
