First day jitters at Waubay School
Vanessa Bloom is Webster Area Elementary/Middle School’s new principal. Bloom has been with the school for five years as a teacher and a volleyball coach, now she said she’s ready to help support the teachers, staff and students as she takes on the new role. “We are learning and growing together, so that we can be the best in our individual ways and so we can be a good person to be better for everybody else,” said Bloom. Webster Area School District has just begun school Aug. 20 and everyone has been hard at work preparing for the school year. This year the elementary/middle school will have a new principal joining their team.

State changes petition deadline to earlier date

The 2026 deadline for city and school uncombined/ combined petition deadline has been changed from Aug. 25 to Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. Although cities and schools have already published notices, they were recommended to publish another one by the South Dakota Municipal League.

Masters Walleye Tournament is coming to Bitter Lake Aug. 21-22. This is the second time Webster will be hosting the Masters Walleye Tournament and according to tournament director Jeff Kelm, he is excited to be coming back to the Webster area for the tournament.
