Webster Senior Citizens met with eight members present. Card winners were Ilene Stave, whist and Helene Eisenbraun, pinochle. Next meeting is Aug. 18, 1 p.m. with Dennis DeWitte serving lunch at Webster Golf Clubhouse. Visitors are welcome.

Business

During the month of July Needs Anonymous provided food to 141 households totaling 3,324 pounds of goods. According to food pantry coordinator Margaret Kwasniewski the pantry is in need of canned goods with a long shelf life specifically vegetables and beans.

Commissioners voice support for celebration of Floren, Welk

During the Day County Commissioners Aug. 5 meeting, plans were set to craft a letter of support for a national movement to recognize Roslyn native Myron Floren and North Dakota native Lawrence Welk for the 70th anniversary of The Lawrence Welk Show.

When Shannon Garduno, Day County 4-H parent and co-owner of Webster Ace heard about the Oven Lovin’ challenge, an effort to replace the ovens in Nordby Hall at the South Dakota state fairgrounds in Huron, she jumped at the opportunity to help.

Eight members of Webster Senior Citizens met July 21 and played cards. Winners were Dennis De-Witt, pinochle and Myrene Gaikowski, whist. Lunch was served by Darlene Rumpca. Next meeting is Aug. 4, 1 p.m. at Webster Golf Clubhouse. Marlys Clausen will serve lunch. Visitors are welcome.

On the week there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork

United States Department of Agriculture and National Agriculture Statistics Service reported 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork in South Dakota for the week ending July 27.Topsoil moisture conditions were rated four percent very short, 19 percent short, 68 percent adequate and nine percent surplus.
