New law helps, more should be done to protect public’s rights

A new law went into effect earlier this month requiring all public boards to annually review the South Dakota Open Meetings Laws and denote such review in their official minutes. While this is a great step towards keeping government officials on the right track when it comes to ensuring they follow the rules set in place to keep the public informed, there’s maybe more yet that can be done....
