Trudy Fossum, 71, Lily, died Feb. 22, 2026, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.
Memorial mass of Christian burial was Feb. 28 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster. Summer inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery near Lily.
Trudy Jane Murschel was born March 20, 1954, at Peabody Hospital, Webster to Clifford and Amelia (Block) Murschel. She graduated from Webster High School in 1972.
She married Richard Steiner and they had three children. Following her divorce, she worked as a secretary at Farmers & Merchants Bank, Aberdeen.
In 1981, she married Gary Fossum. She worked the fields, tended cattle and spent her days outdoors.
She enjoyed fieldwork, gardening, cooking and baking. She was secretary for the Town of Lily for 20 years. She cared for Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church until its closing and maintained Hillside Cemetery near Lily and continued caring for the cemetery for 12 years. She was a member of Christ the King Church, Webster, was active in Altar Society and served on the funeral committee. She sewed for Sew Much Comfort.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Fossum, Lily; children, Lisa and Jason Stenzel, Waseca, MN; Sommer Hunke, Bismarck, ND; Lucas and Amber Steiner, Summerset; stepson, Mark and Lyncee Fossum, Lily; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and one sister, Julie Meidinger, Aberdeen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Bill Meidinger.
