Stanley Monson

Stanley Monson, 80, Groton died Oct. 30, 2025 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Funeral services were Nov. 4 at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Pastor Lexy Carson officiated. Burial with military honors was in Bath Cemetery.

Stanley Gene Monson was born in Webster June 9, 1945 to Kenneth and Emma (Svarstad) Monson. He was baptized in 1945 at Our Savior’s Church. He attended country school and middle school in Webster. He graduated from Bradley High School in 1963.

He married Nyla Le-Count in Bradley June 19, 1965. He was drafted in the U.S. Army Feb. 10, 1966 and served until his discharge in February 1968. He returned home and was employed for many years at SD Wheat Growers and later Locken Farms.

He was a member of the Groton American Legion Post 39. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends, garage projects of all kinds and old John Deere tractors. He had been an auctioneer in his earlier years. Above all, he enjoyed spending time and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Groton; three children, Stan “Butch” and Wendy Monson, Groton; Steve “Swede” and Cassie Monson, Brenda and Adam Reich, Bath; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene and Jerome Hanson, Webster; sisterin- law, Janice Monson; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sistersin- law.
