Rod Fisher

Rod Fisher, former resident of Webster, passed away on June 5, 2026 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD. He was 94 years old.

Rodney Eugene Fisher was born in Webster on May 30, 1932 to Loyal and Goldie (Donat) Fisher. His early years were spent on a farm outside of Webster and later on his family moved to Webster. He attended school in Webster from first grade until he graduated from high school in 1950. In high school he was noted for being an outstanding athlete in multiple sports. His ongoing education included attending Huron College and obtaining a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota in 1976.

Rod served three years in the United States Coast Guard, was a teacher, a South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Agent, a past mayor of Parker, SD and working security for Augustana University during his retirement.

Rod was married to Shirley Stianson of Roslyn in 1952. To this union one son, Scott W. Fisher, was born. They lived in Huron, Mobridge, Webster and Pierre where Shirley taught school and Rod taught for awhile and then became an agent for the South Dakota DCI. Rod married Sjyrlie Hanten of Parker, SD in 1982 and they lived together in Parker until her death in 2023. Rod then moved into Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion.

Rod is survived by his son Scott Fisher, his wife, Gayle (Matthews) Fisher and their three children and six grandchildren, all of San Diego, CA; a sister-in-law, Marlys (Winfield) Delle, of Scottsbluff, NE; stepsons, Gary (Denise) Hanten and Bruce Hanten, all of Parker, SD; a stepdaughter, Teresa (Todd) Schwartz, of Polk City, IA and all of their children and grandchildren.
