Olive Grimsrud

Olive Grimsrud, 91, Webster, died February 2, 2025, at Bethesda Home, Webster.

Funeral services were Feb. 8, 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Webster with burial at Webster Cemetery.

Visitation was Feb. 7, 5-7 p..m with a 6:30 prayer service at Fiksdal Funeral Home, Webster.

Olive Leona Ives was born Sept. 17, 1933, to Ray and Ellen (Hilleson) Ives at Hillhead. She was baptized at the church parsonage in Veblen and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Veblen. She attended elementary school at Hillhead and rural Hillhead (LaBelle, Marshall County, South Dakota). She graduated from Veblen High School in 1951. She obtained her teaching certificate from Northern Teacher’s College, Aberdeen. She taught for one year in the rural elementary school she had attended as a young girl. She moved to Minneapolis and worked at an insurance office.

She married Roger Grimsrud Feb. 14, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived on a farm near Hillhead. In 1956, they moved to Britton where she was active in the First Lutheran Church and Jaycettes. In September of 1966, they moved to Webster where they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church. She worked at the hospital in Webster for over 22 years.

She was active in bible studies at St. John’s and WELCA, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years. She was a member of Jr. Websterian Study Club, served as president of the South Dakota Medical Record Association and worked with senior citizens in Senior Health Information and Insurance Education. She received an award from the governor for her volunteer work over the years. She enjoyed playing bridge and whist, reading, dancing, visiting over a cup of coffee and spendng time with her family. She enjoyed traveling, especially their 25th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii.

Survivors include her husband, Webster; son, Royce and Lunette Grimsrud, Veblen; Lori and Jim Keller, Webster; brother, Darwin Ives, Claremont; seven grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Marvelyn Bohach and Ardelle Spindler.
