Nathan Scott DeJong was born on Jan. 13,1979 in Webster, to Gary and Vivian DeJong; he passed away on Dec. 20, 2024. He was 45.
Memorial services will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at 11 a.m. with a family visitation one hour prior to service. Another memorial service will be held in Firth, NE at a later date.
Nathan lived a good and happy life on a small acreage near Clatonia, NE until his passing. He married Jamie Schulz, the love of his life, on Jan. 28, 2006, in Sioux Falls. The couple was blessed with two children, Jayda and Cody DeJong. Nathan’s family is very important to him. He was a dedicated father, husband and son. He was a supportive pillar in their lives, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. Nathan’s faith was very important to him and he is a Christian who follows Jesus. Nathan was a member of the Living Life Church in Firth, NE.
Nathan attended South Dakota State University and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. He was employed since 2012 with the Nebraska Department of Insurance as a dedicated financial analyst supervisor, providing meticulous oversight and supportive guidance to his colleagues. Prior to Nathan attending SDSU, he received an associate’s degree from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, in frame to finish construction building trades. He worked for Clark Drew Construction in Brookings (before moving to Nebraska) and Mirwyn Jackson (in Lincoln, NE), helping build large homes in South Dakota and Lincoln, NE. Being a skilled carpenter, Nathan did a lot of work on his own house. Outside of work, he loved the great outdoors, finding enjoyment in hunting, fishing, golfing and riding horses with his family. Nathan loved movies, was a big fan of John Wayne, Star Trek and Vikings football.
Nathan was also a past participant in high school rodeos, a member of 4-H and a certified shooting instructor. He was also very much involved in and encouraging to his children’s activities and interests.

Nathan is greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Jamie (Schulz) DeJong; daughter, Jayda DeJong; son, Cody DeJong; parents, Gary and Vivian (Kindler) DeJong; sisters Pamela (Jimmie) Zubke, Gwendolynne (John) Sauer, and Tanya (Michael) Brennan; brother-in-law Eric (Vanessa) Schulz; aunt Vivian Rearick; parents-in-law Richard and Sandy Schulz; nephews and nieces Tony (Amanda) Zubke, Ben Zubke, Hannah Zubke, Margaret Sauer, Colton Schulz, and Evelynn Schulz; greatniece Evelyn Zubke; and numerous cousins and extended family.
Nathan was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Allen DeJong; grandparents Richard and Phyllis DeJong and Axel and Hannah Jensen; aunt Kathleen Triebwasser; and cousin Jimmy Rearick.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all church members, neighbors, friends, co-workers, hospice and hospital staff, and family that have helped and continue to help Nathan’s family during this very difficult time. Named by his family as Honorary Pallbearers are Sam Hubsch, Ben Hoverstadt, Casey Dreis, Mirwyn Jackson.
