LaVonne Gaikowski

LaVonne Gaikowski, 92, Waubay, died April 18, 2025, at Bethesda Home, Webster.

Mass of Christian burial was April 25 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Waubay. Interment was at Waubay Catholic Cemetery.

Lavonne “Bonnie” Emogene Town was born March 12, 1933, to William and Alvira Town in Waubay. She worked at her parents’ bakery/

cafe, Town’s Bakery during her younger years and into her high school years. She graduated from Waubay High School in 1951, where she was active in band, choir, glee club and other activities. After graduation she received her RN nursing degree from Presentation College and worked at Peabody Hospital, Webster, as well as the school nurse in Waubay.

She married Raymond Gaikowski June 23, 1956. They lived in the Waubay area their entire lives and farmed, raised and milked cattle, raised geese and other animals.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church serving on various boards and was song leader for several years. She enjoyed sewing quilts, clothing including her husband’s shirts and other projects. She also enjoyed baking, gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. She had an open door for all and enjoyed helping others.

Survivors include her children, Chuck and Sandy Gaikowski, Waubay; Chere’ and Scott Bierschbach, Webster; Bill and Bonnie Gaikowski, Watertown; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; sisters in law, Pat Town, Doris Town and Delores Gronke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ryan; brothers, Truman Town and Bill Town and an infant sister.
