Kevin Jens, 67, Waubay, died Nov. 12, 2024 at his home in Waubay.
Memorial service was Nov. 15 at Waubay School, Waubay and was livestreamed via Fiksdal Funeral Service.
Kevin Paul Jens was born Dec. 1, 1956 to Fred and Lorraine (Winter) Jens in Sioux Falls. He attended Waubay School District and graduated in 1975.
In 1981 he married Barb Williams at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Waubay. They moved to Bemidji, MN.
He worked for flooring companies, Service Master, Fargo, ND; Hellwig’s Flooring, Sisseton and moved back to Waubay in 1995 where he was self-employed and worked odd jobs. He was the mayor of Waubay for over 24 years. He enjoyed being a part of the community and putting his best foot forward to better it. He traveled to Pierre and Washington, D.C. in his mayoral position to help his town. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hosting an annual family reunion. He enjoyed attending pow wows to watch his sons and grandchildren perform. He and his son traveled to Norway for cultural exchange and performances. He enjoyed all things sports, especially his grandchildren playing. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Twins.
Survivors include his children, Eric and Lacy Jens Sr., Tom DeCoteau Jr., Angeline Wanna; six grandchildren; siblings, Paula and Arnie Beisch, Lori and Richard Allran, Brenda Jens, Vicki and Bob Kampa, Terri and Kevin Gaikowski, Brett and Robin Jens; brotherin- law, Darrel Koch; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark Jens; sister, Rebeca Koch; one nephew and one niece.
