Jon Stephenson, 84, Waubay, died Aug. 18, 2026, at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown.
Jon William Stephenson was born Nov. 6, 1941, to Milo and Peggy Stephenson in Pelican Rapids, MN. He was raised in rural Pelican Rapids, where he attended school and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1959. Following his education, he enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in Baumholder, including the construction of the Berlin Wall. He returned to the US and discharged in 1963.
He married Margery Griepentrog Dec. 26, 1964, in Elizabeth, MN. His career with OtterTail Power Company took them to communities throughout Minnesota, North and South Dakota. He dedicated nearly 30 years to the company before his retirement.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising sheep and cattle. He especially enjoyed time spent with family at their cabin on Heilberger Lake in Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Waubay; children, Don and Alicia Stephenson, Blakesburg, IA; Deb and Sonny Rumpza, Waubay, six grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; sister, Charlotte and Juel Engebretson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents- in-law, Earl and Doris Griepentrog; brother-inlaw, Larry Griepentrog and grandparents.
Services were held Aug. 24, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. Inurnment was at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay.
