John Labarr

John Labarr, 80, Watertown, died May 19, 2024 at Jenkins Living Center, Watertown.

His family will host a celebration of life June 6, 4-6:30 p.m. at Cherry’s Bittersweet Lodge, Summit.

John LeRoy LaBarr was born June 25, 1943 to Leo and Caroline (Wieger) LaBarr at Waubay. He attended country school near the family farm and graduated from Waubay High School in 1961. After his education, he farmed with his family.

He married Betty Pederson- Johnson April 14, 1978, at Summit. They lived near Ortley and he continued to farm and operated businesses including upholstering, collecting and selling antiques. In 1991, they purchased a historic house in Webster where they expanded their antique business. In 2013, they moved to Garden City where they resided until 2020 when he went into a nursing home.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Garden City. He enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques, recycling and tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed playing cards, board games, watching westerns, listening to country music and collecting coins.

Survivors include his wife, Webster; stepsons, James Johnson and Char Eliason, Milbank; Ron Johnson, Sioux Falls; stepdaughter, Beth Romfo, Langdon, ND; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-greatgrandson; three sisters, Julia Rohlfing, Helen Kluntz, Anita LaBarr, Cleveland, MN; two sisters- in-law, Debbie La-Barr, Osseola, WI; Sarah Pederson, Isanti, MN; one brother-in-law, Bill and Meg Pederson, Webster; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson; three brothers, George, Donald, Ralph and Judy LaBarr; one sister, Katherine and Tom Lee; five brothers-in-law, Bill Rohlfing, Robert Luntz, Alvin Pederson, Mickey Pederson, Gerald and Joyce Pederson and one sister-in-law, Norma Pederson.
