Glenda Jerde

Glenda Jerde, 73, died Feb. 22, 2026.

Funeral services were Feb. 28 at Ortley Free Lutheran Church, Ortley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Glenda Kay (Long) Jerde was born March 2, 1952, in Corvallis, OR to Glenn and Arleen (Painter) Long. Later, the family moved to Waubay. She was baptized at her grandmother Pearl Long’s in Waubay and was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from Waubay High School. She was raised on the family farm, milking cows and putting up hay.

She married Larry Hamman Sept. 5, 1970. They had three children. She ran the Fireside Bar, Waubay.

She married William Utne June 8, 1978. They had two daughters. She worked on the farm, gardening, canning, caring for laying hens and selling eggs.

She married Larry Jerde April 8, 1989 and relocated to Watertown. She worked alongside in his tax business for many years. In addition she provided home health care for the elderly.

She enjoyed music and dancing, animals, horses and trail riding. She enjoyed motorcycles, riding and attending bike rallies. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Survivors include her children, Jess Hamman, Jason Hamman and Ruth, Sioux Falls; Stacey Denison and Travis, Lake Preston; Stephanie Bleeker, Watertown; step-daughters, Candace Jerde, Watertown; Tanya Jones and Charles, Trisha Jerde, California; Carmen Jerde, Tempe, AZ; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Pam Engstrom, Webster; brothers- in-law, Jerry and Lynda Town, Al and Dede Jerde, Waubay; Dale and Brenda Jerde, Watertown; sister-inlaw Karen Mikkelson, Watertown; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joann Town; brother, Jon Long; daughter, Abby Utne; husband; parents-inlaw, Verle and Shirley Jerde and brother-inlaw Dave Engstrom.
