Gary Hubsch

Gary Hubsch, 77, Webster, died Aug. 27, 2024, at Bethesda Home, Webster.

Mass of Christian burial was Sept. 2 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster. Military interment was at Webster Cemetery.

Gary Willard Hubsch was born April 19, 1947, to Willard and Sabina (Rumpza) Hubsch at Webster. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church, Webster. He attended country school and St. Otto’s Parochial School and graduated from Webster High School in 1965. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1970. While in college he worked various jobs including lead singer in the band, “The New Breed.”.

He married Sally Brostad May 9, 1970. They moved to Columbus, GA and he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He completed officer training at Ft. Benning, GA, then moved to Lawton, OK where he worked as postal officer, in charge of ceremonies and mess officer at Ft. Sill, OK. They returned to Webster where he was engaged in farming with his family. He joined the South Dakota National Guard and was commander of the Aberdeen Unit. He continued to farm until failing health forced him to retire.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, long country drives checking out the fields and looking at livestock. He was a family historian, passing on stories of Hubsch and Rumpza lineage. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Webster; children, Matt and Teri, Jessie and Dakotah, Sam and Jami, 10 grandchildren; siblings, Mark and Janice, Nick and Kris and Lori, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; inlaws, Jean and Clarice Brostad and sister-in-law Sharon Brostad.
