Dennis Sapp

Dennis Sapp, 66, died June 14, 2026, at Prince of Peace Nursing Home, Sioux Falls.

A celebration of life and prayer service was July 2 at Fiksdal Funeral Service, Webster.

Dennis Bryan Sapp was born May 25, 1960 in Webster to Larry and Audrey (Kotzea) Rish. Following his parents’ divorce, he moved with his mother to Washington, D.C. He spent summers in Waubay with his grandmother.

He had a career in construction, helping build commercial buildings and skyscrapers throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. While in the Chesapeake Bay area, he also was a crab fisherman. In 1991, he returned to Waubay, where he and Kathy Birney made their home and raised their son, Bryan.

He continued working in construction, specializing in concrete work. He did carpentry, welding, car mechanic, HVAC/ plumbing and spent several years driving semitruck. In September 2024, Dennis was moved to a care facility in Sioux Falls.

He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, hunting, target shooting, collecting firearms, caring for reptiles, cookouts with family and friends.

He is survived by sons Bryan Birney and David Sapp; brother John Sapp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathy Birney and brother Michael Sapp.
