David Lauseng, 73, Aberdeen died April 13, 2026 after a brief illness.
Private family services were April 20.
David Allen Lauseng was born Oct. 3, 1952, to Melvin and Ruth (Manska) Lauseng in Waubay. As a young boy, he was severely injured in an explosion caused by a mortar shell – likely a war souvenir. Unaware it was still live, he had picked it up from a shelf and dropped it. He sustained life altering injuries. He attended school in Waubay and Michigan. Throughout his life, he lived and held a variety of jobs across South Dakota and Michigan. However, he was happiest working as a cowboy and tending cattle.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Donna (Herold) Lauseng; children, Andrea Behnke and Troy Gabriel, Clinton Lauseng, Kayla Lauseng and Jacob Jorgenson and his son, Steven Schultz and family; brothers, Donald Lauseng, Edmund and Vicky Lauseng; sisters, Diane and Raymond Gabriel, Ruth Ann Pies, Marilyn Reyelts, Kathy Lauseng; brother-in-law, Doug and Cathy Herold; sister-in-law, Debra and Jerry Nepodal; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Derwin “Bob” Lauseng; sister, Harriet Minder; in-laws, Ernest and Irene Herold; several brothers-in-law, sistersin- law, nieces and nephews.
