Harold Schmitz

Harold Schmitz, formerly of Webster, died June 26, 2026, at Alomere Hospital in Alexandria, MN.

Memorial service was July 24, 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster.

Harold Schmitz was born in Wells County, North Dakota, Jan. 19, 1937 and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Harvey High School in Harvey, ND in 1955 and upon graduation went to work for Gambles hardware store. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60 and moved back to Harvey to resume working for Gambles. He married Ruth June 2, 1962. His work with Gambles took him to Harvey, ND; Carrington, ND; Watertown, Webster, Alexandria and Saint James, MN and back to Webster. He purchased the Gambles store in Webster in 1970 and lived in Webster for the next 50 years. After selling the store he worked at Dakotah and Dakota Tube.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, dancing and woodworking. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He entered Grand Arbor Assisted Living in July, 2025. He enjoyed getting to know the staff and residents.

Survivors include his three sons, Michael and Alice Schmitz, Alexandria; David Schmitz, Littleton, CO; Bil and Laurie Schmitz, Olivia, MN; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emily Schmitz and Linda Docktor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gertrude Schmitz; wife; brother, Raymond Schmitz and sister, Sister Mary Ann.
