Carl Block, 98, Webster, died April 4, 2026, at Bethesda Home, Webster.
Mass of Christian Burial was April 10 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster. Inurnment was at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery, Webster.
Carl J. Block was born to Joseph and Mary (Lewno) Block Jan. 23, 1928, on the family farm east of Grenville. He was educated at Grenville Catholic School for first and second grades and later grades in a one room country school moved from land that was going to become the Waubay National Wildlife Refuge. In 1945, he graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. He continued to help his parents on the farm.
He married Doris Stromseth Oct. 16, 1951. They purchased the Block family farm located east of Grenville. They started a dairy business, which expanded into selling hay and alfalfa seed. They lived on the farm for 70 years. In 2019, they moved to Webster during the winter months. In 2021, they began living there fulltime.
He enjoyed repairing things, the peace and quiet of the rolling hills and delighted in his ability to recall the past. He was currently a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 93 years, receiving baptism, communion and confirmation there. He was on the parish council for many years. He was a Catholic Forester since 1944.
Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons, Kenneth and Terri Block, Vonore, TN; Audrey Block, Aberdeen; Ronald and Nancy Block, Webster; Joyce Block Gix and Bob Gix, Cashmere, WA; Sandra Block-Hansen and Lester Hansen, Veblen; Keith Block and Lori Wilkinson, Wilmot; Douglas and Elaine Block, Waubay; Charles Block and Linda Knutt-Block, Long Beach, CA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Daniel Block, Larry Block; daughter, Mary Block in infancy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angela and Art Nicolay; Sylvia and Jerome Dolney; Helen and Norbert Stromseth; Amelia and Clifford Murschel and Agnes, in infancy.
