Joanne Johnson, 90, Webster, died Oct. 12, 2025, at Bethesda Home, Webster.
Funeral services were Oct. 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Webster. Pastor Mike DeKraai officiated. Interment was at New Sweden Cemetery near Holmquist.
Joanne Doneen Schimmel was born March 14, 1935 to Lawrence and Lois (Stevens) Schimmel at the Alfred and Florence Stevens farm near Bristol. When she was a few months old, they moved to the Wilhelm Schimmel farm until purchasing a farm a mile north. She grew up and attended country school in Troy Township at Prairie Flower District 191. She was baptized at Webster United Methodist Church and confirmed at Butler Lutheran Church. She graduated from Bristol High School May 8, 1953. She began working at PMA, later known as ASC office in Webster the fall of 195362 and later during busy seasons.
She married Lloyd Johnson, Holmquist June 2, 1957 at Butler Lutheran Church. They lived in Webster until January 1958, when they moved to a farm four miles north of Holmquist. They joined St. John’s Lutheran Church, Webster in 1959, where she served on the church council, circle, taught Sunday School and records of ministry for many years. She took a job at Day County Treasurer’s Office from 1976-1977. She again worked at the ASC office 1983-88, when she retired. Lloyd died in 2001. She continued to live on the farm until 2006, when she built a home in Webster. In 2022, she moved to Bethesda Home.
She enjoyed bowling at Webster and Bristol bowling alleys for many years. She especially enjoyed her family and visiting them.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Johnson, David and Ana Johnson, Kevin Johnson; four grandsons, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Marcene Schimmel at one day old.
