David Joseph Johnson, 78, of Webster, SD died peacefully August 7, 2025, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster.
His family will hold a Memorial Service in remembrance of his life to be scheduled at a later date.
David was born May 19, 1947 in Toledo, OH, to Robert M. and Kathleen (Lauters) Johnson. He moved to Redwood Falls, MN, as a small child and grew up there attending Redwood Falls High School. After high school, David served in the U.S. Army for three years. He was stationed in Germany where he worked as a computer operator in the Supply Headquarters and he met his wife, Jeannine Ahlstedt. David and Jean were married in Germany on April 2, 1970. Upon completion of his service David and Jean settled in Redwood Falls, MN where David worked for the City of Redwood Falls as the Water and Waste-water Supervisor for 32 years and raised 3 children.
David had a life-long love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In retirement, David relocated to Webster, SD, to continue his love of hunting and fishing and also spent a lot of time at Lake Koronis with his children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife Jean; three children: Travis Johnson (Mari Guenin) of Redwood Falls, MN; Amanda (Nate) Wildeman of Rochester, MN; and Mike (Katie) Johnson of Fridley, MN; four grandchildren: Marek, Maeve, Mimi and Miko Johnson; and brother in-law, Russ Baumann of Redwood Falls, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathleen Johnson and sister Patricia Baumann.
