Janice Brakefield

Janice Brakefield, 75, died Dec. 18, 2024 at Sun Dial Manor, Bristol.

Mass of Christian burial is Dec. 23, 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster. Interment is at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery, Webster. Visitation was Dec. 22, 5-7 p.m. at Fiksdal Funeral Service, Webster.

Janice Marie Krista was born May 1, 1949, to Michael and Mathilda (Waletich) Krista at Sisseton. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden. She attended parochial school though the eighth grade in Eden and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1967. She went on to Stewarts School of Hairstyling, Aberdeen and moved to Rapid City where she worked at a salon until 1971 when she moved to Minneapolis, MN.

She married James Brakefield March 4, 1972, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They lived in Coon Rapids, MN. In 1977, they moved to Webster where she worked at Lorraine’s House of Beauty. In 1979, she started Southside Beauty beauty shop in her home. She retired in 2018.

She and Jim enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii, Alaska and Florida and as a family, camping and road trips. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, quilting, making gifts for her grandchildren and snowmobiling in the Black Hills. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and active in altar society, Catholic Daughters and helped orchestrate the church directory. She was also a member of the Cruisin’ Classics Car Club.

Survivors include her husband, Webster; children, Krista and Bob Baumgartner, Two Rivers, WI; Brian and Melissa Brakefield, Aberdeen; six grandchildren; siblings, Larry Krista, Marge Krista, Eden; Pete and Mavis Krista, Britton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom Krista, George Krista and one infant brother.
