Emma Waddle, 99, Webster, died Nov. 17, 2024 at Bethesda Home, Webster.
Funeral services were Nov. 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Webster and were livestreamed. Interment followed at Webster Cemetery.
Emma Marie Holland was born March 1, 1925, to Jacob and Isabelle (Sampson) Holland in Day County, South Dakota. She was baptized at Falnes Lutheran Church and confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church. She attended country school north of Webster. After her education, she worked for local families caring for children, cooking and cleaning.
She married Leslie “Bud” Waddle Nov. 11, 1943 at Waubay. They lived on a farm near Webster. She helped in all areas of the farming operation. After her children were grown she was a cook at Day County Hospital, Webster for 23 years until her retirement. She and Bud, with help from their sons, built their new home near the family farm. Bud died in 2003 and she continued to live there until moving into Webster. In 2017 she moved to Bethesda Home.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and circle. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, quilting, crafting and painting bird houses that her husband built. She embroidered hundreds of dishtowels and enjoyed showing and gifting them.
Survivors include her children, Sharon and Terry McBroom, Darrel and Judy Waddle, Dan and Kim Waddle, Webster; Anita and Jerome Stulen, Spicer, MN; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Selma Evenson, Sioux Falls and Helen Nelson, Webster; one sister- in-law, Elaine Holland, Webster; one brother-inlaw, Earl Althoff, Waubay; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Leslie Jr; one grandson; an infant great-granddaughter; siblings, Edwin Holland, Lorraine Peterson, Sherman Holland, Irene Tvinnereim, Harriet Evenson, Judith Barber and Serine Althoff.
