John Sonstebo Sr., 91, Wallace died at his home Nov. 3,2024.
Funeral services were Nov. 8, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Wallace with burial at Telemarken Cemetery near Wallace.
John Langdon Sonstebo was born Feb. 21, 1933, to Peder and Rosina “Rose” (Rooke) Sonstebo in Bradley. He attended school at Wallace and graduated from WHS in 1951. He went to business college in Rapid City, where he helped the basketball team get their first win in over five years. He returned to help on the family farm.
He married Karen De-Groff June 16, 1972, at Calvary Lutheran Church. They lived near Wallace.
He continued to farm and in 1954 he and family members started a purebred angus business now known as J&J Angus.
He enjoyed all things outdoors including fishing and hunting. He served on the Wallace Elevator board and was a part of the Angus Association. He enjoyed showing his cattle in various places in North and South Dakota and won many awards. He served on the Telemarken Cemetery Board for many years. He enjoyed playing whist and pinochle and many other games. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent and church deacon for many years, he also taught Sunday school.
Survivors include his sons John and Autumn Sonstebo, Mike and Aliesha Sonstebo; five grandchildren; two sisters, Deb Kuecker and Arleen Hopf; sisters-in-law, brothersin- law, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen and one cousin.
