Darlys J. Olson passed away at the age of 89 on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 in Watertown.
Memorial services were at 1 p.m., Oct. 23, 2024 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown where Pastor Jerod Jordan officiated.
Interment was at Helgen Cemetery near Florence.
Darlys Jeanette Bury was born on Jan. 31, 1935 to Harry and Marie (Herr) Bury on the Herr homestead near Butler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school and graduated from Webster High School. She married Ole T. Olson on June 7, 1953 at Pierpont Lutheran Church. The couple farmed for eight years near Webster and later lived in Huron and Aberdeen and later in 1972 they moved to Watertown. Darlys worked at both St. Luke’s and Dakota Midland Hospitals in Aberdeen. She also worked at the Codington County courthouse for five years, Memorial Hospital, which later became Prairie Lakes Hospital, for 19 years; then retiring in 2001. Darlys also worked hard on the farm and enjoyed the outdoors. After leaving the farm, many summers were spent camping.
Her special love was for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her gardening and drives in the country and always wanted to know what was over the next hill. Her husband Ole died in December of 2001.
She was a loving and fair mom (or tried to be)!
She is survived by her one son Dewey (Gary Mills) Olson, Utah; three daughters Ann (Herman) Storm of Frederick, Denice (Tom) Peterson of Bismarck, ND and Cindy (Rich) Davis of Florence; one sister-in-law Rosalie of Belle Fourche; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Darlys was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; her brothers Argel Bury and infant brother William; great-grandson Turner Schmeling; and her beloved Min Pins Rudy and Half-Pint.
