Melvin Bergman

Melvin Bergman, 66, Roslyn, died Sept. 29, 2024 at his home from acute myeloid leukemia.

Funeral services were Oct. 4 at Fiksdal Funeral Service, Webster. Interment was at Britton Cemetery, near Britton.

Melvin Lee Bergman was born May 5, 1958, to Ken and Gin Bergman in Buffalo, MN. He lived in Becker, MN until age 12 when they moved to Roslyn. He attended Roslyn High School, graduating in 1976. After graduation, he moved to Phoenix, AZ and then moved back to Roslyn.

He married Laurie Jorgenson. In 1980, they moved to Houston, TX where he started his trucking career. In winter of 1982, they moved back to South Dakota and he began driving truck for Jensen Feed & Grain. In 1986, he bought a farmstead and in 1989, he quit driving truck to start a dairy farm. He ran stock cows and sheep and helped run his dad’s farm. He worked parttime hauling propane and later drove grain truck for Roslyn Elevator.

He took care of his father when he was diagnosed with cancer, his mother when she developed Alzheimer’s Disease and his brother who was diagnosed with dementia. He enjoyed helping others. He especially enjoyed working in his shop, building, fixing, improvising and making unique creations out of whatever he had on hand including a chandelier made from a milking unit. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their camper. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Angie and James Schiltz, Erin and Mike Fildes; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; one brother, Ron; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; father and mother- in-law, Winky and Marcy Jorgenson.
