Thelma Monshaugen

Thelma Monshaugen, 103, Roslyn died Aug. 9, 2024 at Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center, Roslyn.

Memorial services were Aug. 14 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn and were live streamed. Inurnment was at Roslyn Cemetery.

Thelma Eline Rovang was born May 20,1921 to Elmer and Elma (Rubel) Rovang at Todd County, Minnesota. She grew up in the Fergus Falls, MN area. In 1938 they moved to Roslyn. She attended school and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1938.

In February 1940 she married Alfred Monshaugen. They farmed in Liberty Township, Day County until 1959 when they moved into Roslyn. She attended St. Joseph Nursing School, Mitchell. She worked at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home, Roslyn in nursing and administration for 30 years until retiring. In 1997 they sold their home and moved to Webster. Alfred died in June 2004. She entered Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center in December 2018 where she has resided since.

She was active in Senior Citizens and church activities. She also volunteered at Needs Anonymous and Museum of Wildlife, Science and Industry. She loved decorating cakes and was a very good seamstress. She was Vinegar Queen in Roslyn for two years.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Wold, Fridley, MN; Wes Monshaugen, Roslyn; Carole and Troy Randall, St. Johns, FL; Lois and Craig Dow, Arlington, TX; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three sisters, Arlene Carlson, Winnifred Opsahl and Lavonne Peterson; two brothers, Donald and Wesley Rovang.
