Loxie Marie Rowland

Loxie Marie (Sorum) Rowland was born in Sioux Falls to Marvin and Shirley (Broyles) Sorum on Sept. 2, 1944. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home near Wentworth on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and unwavering dedication to her family and the many children she nurtured throughout her life.

She grew up on a farm north of Sioux Falls and graduated from Brandon High School. She attained her beautician license from Stewart’s School of Hairstyling and for a time owned Loxie’s Beauty Salon in Renner. On Aug. 17, 1963 she was united in marriage to Lester E. Rowland in Renner.

She always wanted a dozen kids but settled with three of her own. Little did she know that her love would be shared with so many children. Her love of children was her life. Besides her immediate family, she cared for, fed and generously loved all who came to her home daycare door. For over 40 years she showed her love in Renner, Groton and Waubay to countless children. Her want for a dozen kids was more than fulfilled by her daycare families. She will be forever missed and remembered.

Loxie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Shirley (Broyles) and Marvin Sorum.

Loxie is survived by her husband, Lester Rowland (Wentworth), and her children and their spouses: Lori and Kevin Bate (Spearfish), Loren and Pam Rowland (Phoenix, AZ), Les and Sara Rowland (Brandon). Grandchildren: Chelsea (Daniel), Harem (Lori); Breanna (Tom) Birk, Thomas (Ashlee) Rowland, Amanda (Caleb) Zacharias, and Celina Rowland (Loren); Ben Rowland, Maddie Rowland, and Gus Rowland (Les).
