Eden: The funeral mass for Rosa Lee J. Opitz will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. Ken Lulf will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:306:30 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 at the church, concluding with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.
Rosa Lee was born Feb. 18, 1933 to Math and Loretta (Schlekewy) Jaspers. She was raised with an older brother Valery Sr. and younger siblings Germaine, John and Kay. She attended country school at Eden and graduated from Sisseton
High School. She received her teaching certificate from Northern State College and was a country school teacher at Eden #5 for one year.
On Oct. 13, 1956 she married Melvin Opitz. They raised five daughters on a farm northwest of Eden and celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2020.
Rosa Lee was a devoted wife and mother. She was a talented seamstress and spent many hours crocheting and quilting and worked at Dakotah Inc. in Eden for many years. Her grandchildren received many of her special handmade projects. She took pride in her garden and lawn; her pantry was always filled with delicious treats. She enjoyed spending time with family visiting and playing cards. She will be remembered as being loving and kind.
Rosa Lee passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Strand Kjorsvig Home.
Celebrating her life are four daughters and their families: Rose Ann and Jim Nagel; Adam Nagel; Paul Nagel; Sarah and Seth Mc-Gill and Isaac, Jacob and Boston; Alex and Elizabeth Nagel and Maria, Veronica and Chiara; Beth Nagel - Donna and Dan Miller; Jessie and Matt Volkers and Calvin, Griffin, Marin and Eden; Ben and Larissa Miller and Avery, Sawyer, Emery and Sydney - Faye and Kenny Awe; Kaitlin and David Feist and Kenna - Claudette Opitz and Randy Kurkowski; her siblings and in-laws: John (Mary Sue) Jaspers; Kay (Ken) Goehner and Sylvia Jaspers.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Melvin; daughter, Rita; infant granddaughter, Danielle; parents, Math and Loretta Jaspers; and in-laws, Alfred and Agnes (Keintz) Opitz.
