Summer is just around the corner; in fact, it begins later this month. It’s a time I long for all winter long, but it’s also a busy time for many of us. In a way, I look at winter as a trial and difficult to get through.
To honor those fallen service men and women, honor guards attended area cemeteries to pay their respects through firing a volley and playing of taps Memorial Day. Here, American Legion members Tom Lewno, Paul Peterson, Doug Lynch and Ralph Oakland aim and fire at Webster Cemetery Soldiers Circle before heading into the Memorial Day program at the high school. Day County ambulance director resigns

Day County Ambulance Service Director Chad Madsen has stepped down from his position with his resignation being accepted by Day County Commissioners.Commissioners met May 23 in special session to discuss an update for the county’s ambulance service.

Council appoints Soldier interim mayor of Waubay

Waubay City Council held a special meeting May 28 to discuss the council’s plans due to the passing of Mayor Barry Hillestad.All members were present and council president Doug Herold called the meeting to order and started the discussion of the council’s options.

Former sheriff, mayor Hillestad dies in office

For a second time consecutively, a mayor has died in office at Waubay.Serving his community just 18 days before his passing, former Day County Sheriff and newly elected Waubay Mayor Barry Hillestad died May 23 at his home. He was 67.
