His hand hovering above the bar, but not holding on, 92-year-old Russell Shoemaker balances on one leg Feb. 15 while Kyle Hubsch, physical therapist, holds a stopwatch behind Shoemaker’s back to see how long the elder man is able to hold the pose. It was part of the post-program assessment involved with the Better Balance program. The six-week program helped participants gain better strength, mobility and balance.
